ABSTRACT

Research on macroalgae needs to be developed in order to increase macroalgae production quantity effectively. One factor to be explored is carbondioxide (CO2) utilization as the indicator of growth rate increasement in macroalgae Kappaphycus alvarezii which controlled in laboratory scale. Experimental design used in this study was completely randomized design (CRD) with treatment: P1 is giving CO2 1 time/3 days (5x100 ml/min for 25 min), P2 is giving CO2 1 time/ 2 days (5x100 ml/min for 25 minutes), P3 is giving CO2 1 time/ 1 day (5x100 ml/min for 25 minutes), and the controls are is no carbondioxide injection. The results of this study indicates that carbondioxide injection significantly affects the macroalgae Kappaphycus alvarezii growth rate, so Tukey’s test was examined to determine which treatment are significantly different to macroalgae Kappaphycus alvarezii growth rate. Based on theTukey'stestresult, the further treatment on P3 media significantly different to macroalgae Kappa phycus alvarezii growth rate with value of P3 > L : 0747 > 0.65, while the media treatment P1 and P2 with successive values - P1 < L: 0093 < 0.65 and P2 < L : 0068 < 0.65 was not significantly different to macroalgae Kappaphycus alvarezii growth rate. Based on the measurement of alkalinity by titration method,we obtained the highest alkalinity values in P3 of 80mg/l, while the lowest alkalinity values in P1 (40mg/l).
