ABSTRACT

Green turtle (Chelonia mydas) is one of the endangered  species because of intensive hunting of the green turtle eggs. In order to obtain accurate and reliable data, the understanding on the ecological, biological, economic, social and related to the green turtle is very important to support C.  mydas  management and conservation. This study aims to determine the effect of sand characteristics and location of the nest to the hatching eggs rate. A nest survey research was conducted in August 2014 using purposive random sampling strategy in two site locations. The results showed hatching eggs rate was significantly differences due to the temperature and moisture contents. The relevant parameter used were the location of the nest, sand composition, temperature, moisture content and percentage hatching giving respectively as follows: Station 1 was shady, 50.81 % fine sand  predominance, 31.3 ° C, 10.1 % and 84.92 % of hatching eggs while station 2 was unshaded, 55.47% predominance fine sand, 33 °C, 9.3 % and 68.68 % of hatching eggs.
