HUBUNGAN SEDIMEN DASAR PERAIRAN DENGAN PENYEBARAN LAMUN (Seagrass) DI TELUK PARE PARE, SULAWESI SELATAN Mahatma Lanurudan Deasy Ferayanti Jurusan Ilmu Kelautan, FIKP Universitas Hasanuddin, Tamalanrea, Makassar. E-mail:mahat70@gmail.com Diterima 7 Juni 2011; disetujui 9 September 2011 ABSTRACT Sedimentological and Oceanographic study has been carried out in coastal waters of the Pare-Pare Bay, South Sulawesi in March 2008. The objective of the study was to investigate the relationship between bottom sediments (substrate) and seagrass distribution. Eight (8) stations along coast of Pare-Pare Bay were chosen for measurements of bottom sediment grain size, water temperature, salinity, turbidity, water depth, current speed, and wave height, seagrass species composition and density. Sediment samples were analyzed using dry sieving method and classified based on grain size according to Wentworth scale. Seagrass data was collected using quadrate transect. Correspondence analysis was used to determine the relationship between sediment and seagrass distribution. Correspondence analysis revealed that Thalassia hempricii, Cymodocea rotundata, and Cymodocea serrulatawere dominant in thevery coarse sand substrate (particle size 1- 2mm). Fine sand (0,125 – 0,250 mm) substrates were dominated by Enhalus acoroides, Halophila minorandSyringodium isoetifolium. Substrate with coarse sand was found to be suitable for Halophila ovalis. The results of this study indicating that distribution of seagrass was closely related with the bottom sediment type (substrate) in the study site.
