ABSTRACT

The marine sessile organisms, i.e. sponge and soft coral, are resources which potential to produce new bioprospecting chemicals. Within the exploration strategy trough these species, an application of high troughput screening (HTS), is one of the most important step to direct the research for gaining new chemicals with pharmacological prospective. The phylosophy of HTS methods is scaling the analysis start from the sample which has the most probable to contain new compounds and efficiency of sample used as the raw material from marine resources considerably smaller than terestrial resources. This mini review presents the HTS technique for marine organims, expecially for sponge and soft coral, which includes dereplication, NMR ‘phytochemistry’, HPLC, and spectroscopic and bioassay techniques. Application of these techniques to sponges and soft corals collected from Seribu Islands waters gained 18 known bioactive chemicals and 1 new compound from soft coral Nephthea sp.
