ABSTRACT

The aim of the research is to know effectiveness and efficiency of feed on the grouper larvae rearing using automatic feeder. The research was conducted in June 2009 at the Grouper Hatchery Laboratory, Seafarming Center Batam. Experiments were carried out in rectangular concrete tanks with a volume of 12 m3 and the effective water volume of 10 m3. The treatments are applied is larval feeding by automatic feeder (treatment A) and feeding directly (by hand) (treatment B). Grouper larvae aged 21 days with a density of 120 000 fish/ tanks. The observation was done for 30 days. The results showed that feeding by using automatic feeders can give better results than the direct feeding. Growth in the absolute length of treatment A: 22.50 mm and 19.50 mm in the treatment B. Survival rate of larvae in treatment A of 7.92% and the treatment of B of 5.83%. Water quality parameters during maintenance, the treatment A, temperature range of 28-29 0C; salinity from 30 to 30.5 ppt, pH 6.5 to 7.0, and DO from 5.1 to 5.3 mg / L. As for the treatment of B obtained of the temperature range of 28-29 0C; salinity 30 to 31 ppt, pH 6.5 to 7.2, and DO from 5.2 to 5.5 mg /L.
